Danielle’s Hair Journey 10/2022 - 12/2023

First appointment - October 2022

Danielle first came to me back in October of 2022. She was a walk-in at the salon I was working at and we instantly hit it off.

We had a thorough consltation on what she was looking for. She was looking to get a haircut and a few layers for movement in her style.

At the time, Danielle had very long yet thin hair. I was a bit hesitant on giving her layers because I did not want to make her ends look even thinner than they already did.

At the time, Danielle did not have much of a hair routine herself. She took care of her hair and has always liked using natural products. However, she only did what she thought was working for her.

Although I was histitant to give her layers, I did want to at least add very subtle layers for movement. I proceeded the service and gave her layers but only enough to give her hair movement and shape.

She was very happy with the look of her hair and her experience. I told her I wanted to put her on a routine to get her hair cut every 3-4 months and she agreed.

Life happened, work got busy and I did not see Danielle until 5 months later. In 5 months, her hair had not changed much. It had obviously grown, she had really liked the subtle layers and the movement it gave her so we did that exact thing again.

I sent her off and pre-booked her for 10 weeks from then.

Danielle came back 10 weeks later and this time we discovered something. I do not have a picture as I had not yet figured I was going to really love documenting my clients’ progress.

At this appointment, as I was brushing Danielle’s hair out during our consultation, I noticed she had came in with a tight high pony tail that day. Right where the ponytail had been tied there were many short layers. Instantly I asked her how often she was wearing that high ponytail and she said everyday.

Wearing that tight ponytail in the same spot everyday was breaking her hair. She had a whole section in her crown area that had just broken off over time due to always being tied in the same spot.

I told her to switch up her hairstyle and use something softer to tie her hair up with.

I told her to switch it up and do braids, buns, low ponytails, etc. I also suggested she buys claw clips and scrunchies instead of the hair tie she had. I proceeded the service and sent her off.

Danielle came back 3 months later and this is when I began documenting her progress. (Pictures below)

At this appointment we noticed her breakage we had discovered the previous appointment had grown out. Her hair was looking great, healthy, and long.

At this appointment we went in an gave her a nice wash, touched up her layers and gave her hair shape again.

At this appointment, we also noticed the hair on her temples had grown in a lot. We hadn’t really noticed how thin it was around her receding area until she showed me this picture from May 4, 2022 - before she had began coming to me.

Danielle told me that she had been oiling her scalp, she was experimenting with her diet, she switched her shampoo, and was being more aware of how she styled her hair to avoid and constant tension or pulling.

We were both so happy to compare the pictures side by side to see the difference.

Long Subtle layers and a few baby hairs at her root.

At this appointment, while I was blowdrying Danielle’s hair I noticed some noticeable volume at her root and many baby hairs. (Picture below) At this time, she had already been oiling her scalp, massaging her scalp, and experimenting with her diet for a few months.

At this appointment, we still kept her layers at the same length but they were much more visible which proved to me that her hair was getting thicker. Her blowout really helped enhance where her layers were and we were finally able to see that shape and movement we had been looking for for a year now.

Once again we were both very excited with her progress and we scheduled her for another 2 months out.

Visible volume and baby hairs at her root. Her layers were much more visible this time.

This is Danielle’s most recent appointment.

She has still been doing the same things as the past few months - oiling her scalp, massaging, and watching her diet as well as being aware of the products she is using on her hair.

In the picture below you can clearly see I kept her layers the same length but the thickness in her hair now made it look like I gave her much more layers.

What does that mean?

Her hair is growing, getting thicker, and growing strong which gives it the ability to reach the rest of her hair without breaking prematurely somewhere in between. The thicker the hair is, the more drastic the layers will look while keeping the perimeter of the hair nice and full.

Not as many baby hairs at her root - means the baby hairs are growing. We kept the layers the same but her hair is clearly thicker and gives the illusion of many more layers. Major progress.

Conclusion

Danielle and I are exptremely happy with the progress we have been able to make in a little over year.

However, let me tell you something. I could not have done this all myself without Danielle’s dedication.

Danielle has been so great about being open to trial and error. She herself has been playing around with what is working and what is it not. However, what has really helped is her consistency. She does not just try one thing and give up if she is not seeing results. She is aware that to see results she needs to be consistent for a few weeks or even months.

I only get to work on her hair for an hour and a half at her appointment every 2-3 months. She is the one caring for her hair on an everyday basis at home and being able to see these pictures side by side gets her even more excited to continue on her journey.

Stay tuned for an update on Danielle’s journey!
