Protect Your Hair From Las Vegas Heat!

Las Vegas heat is burning our hair!

In the summer, we often wash our hair more, put it up constantly, and soak it in chlorine water for hours. That’s okay -caring for our hair should not stop us from doing the activities that we love.

If you are anything like me, summer is a time for hiking new trails, taking outdoor walks, trying new activities like pickle ball, or soaking up the sun by the pool. During these adventures, heat protectant becomes my best friend.

Think of it this way: just as you wouldn’t forget to pack sunscreen when you go swimming, your hair and scalp need protection from the sun too. Since our hair naturally protects our scalp, we need to ensure it has its own protective barrier as well.

Here are 3 ways I like to make sure I am protecting my hair during this Vegas heat.

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Hydrating shampoo, conditioner, and hair oils are must-haves, but they are not always enough. Hydrating our hair from the inside out is just as important. Drinking enough water will make your hair shinier, softer, and less brittle.

  2. Sun Protection

Make sure you look for heat protectants with UV protection. There is a difference between heat protectants designed for hot tools and those for the sun. This step is crucial. Even if you are just stepping out to walk your dog, make sure you give your hair a few sprays of protection. This is not only for summer months but winter as well. This step will ensure that sun damage is avoided as much as possible.

  3. Wear A Hat

Wearing a hat is a great way to protect our hair and scalp from the sun. Especially if you will be out in the sun for extended periods of time.

Not everyone is into wearing hats but there are many options out there - bucket hats, baseball caps, visors, etc. When choosing a hat, make sure it is one that is breathable and lightweight to avoid overheating. Some hats will even say if they have UPF protection.

Conclusion

Protecting our hair from the sun is something easy to forget. If you really think about it, when the sun shines down on us, what is the first thing it hits? Our head. Make these steps a habit, and your future self will thank you.
